OK, honestly how did you feel when Butler got shot.
And then later on, how were your reactions when you heard that Butler had aged 15 years?
I cried when he got shot...;___; and fell terribly when got old 15 years
Its was needed for him too get shot so Artemis could see how much he ment too him.. and that butler would give his LIFE for him. but i realy didn't cry. and gaining 15 years to my life would be beater than being dead.

Butler may have ultimately lost some of his reaction speed, a little strength here or there, but being repaired so thoroughly after the process is better than anything we could have hoped for after his death. The fact is that after the book ended and we moved on to the next the fact that Butler is older seems to fade and become less relevant. We see that Artemis is still carying out his plans and Butler is keeping up just fine. There will be a day when his breaking point is reached, but until then (probably in the 6th book) it is less of an intensive happening and more of an emphasis on how crucial Butler is and how much more dynamic his character is than the readers may have thought previously.

Yeah, when they were jumping out the window didn't Butler say he was going to retire as soon as they came back? That it was getting to be too much for him, and that he was an aging man?

But Butler CAN'T retire!!! Nothing would be the same!!! I'd miss the scenes where the fairies go into shock as soon as they see him. Grin

Butler did say that this was to be the last expidition didn't he? I thought he had made Artemis promise that after the last excursion there would be no more. But the world always seems to find a way to put itself back in jeopardy, so someone will have to step up. Now, this could mean that either Butler takes a less prominent role, or he could be killed in the 6th book. No matter what happens there has to be conflict in the 6th book and I can't visualize it without Butler there going all gung-ho to protect Artemis and Co.

THAT RHYMED!! Grin

Ah hem.... ~*._.*~

Anyway, I was pretty convinced that this was the end of their adventures. I mean, Butler's three years older and has had time to really mull things over, so he probably doesn't want to go back out and save all their skins when they're fighting goblins, trolls, plasma cannons or the Mafiya. So unless they all get thrown unexpectedly into something such as kidnapping I don't know what they'd do...

Ha. I had no idea that I made that rhyme.  Grin But yes, I agree. After the 15 year death0life jump, plus the 3 years waiting period on his end, mixed with the multiple excursions and stress levels of being bodyguard to young Master Fowl, I think Butler may have seen the last of his full-fledged fighting days. But who knows. I personally hope that he has one books worth of good old kick-butt left in him. (As long as it does not include his demise as a repercusion.)

:O! If Butler actually died... I think I'd be most sad if he died. I mean, main characters: it's all sad when they die, but when someone like Butler dies... He's the rock of the series. Everyone leans on him. When he's there everyone's safe. If he died I'd cry my eyes out. x_x

I felt bad for Butler..... I guess it's his job, but he goes throuhg so much for Arty. I was afraid that Dom would go all "Pet Cemetery" and be bitter, but he was pretty optimistic.

^Yeah, me too. I just think Arty needs to realize that someday, someone's not gonna be able to be saved.

I felt really sad when Butler died. Sad Arty cried for him. Sad Thank god, he was brought back to life... but the ageing problem wasn't very good news, but at least he was alive.
