OK, honestly how did you feel when Butler got shot.
And then later on, how were your reactions when you heard that Butler had aged 15 years?

Well honestly, I freaked out a little bit. I mean, what would Artemis do without a Butler bodyguard (Juliet's cool, but see the part where she took her test with Madame)? He wouldn't survive.

Butler aging 15 years was... bad. I think it's one of the reasons that there are only going to be 6 AF books. Too much aging and stuff: Butler ages 15 years, Artemis ages 3 years... There's one less book to write. [end cynical post]

I was sad to see that Butler might have died but I didn't think Colfer was going to kill him off. It just didn't seem like the right time for him to go. It's also sad that he aged 15 years but honestly it's better than him being dead.

I wasn't really that shocked (well, maybe I was since it just didn't sink in for a while. Then he was revived so there wasn't time to lament over his death in the first place). When he told Artemis his name, that was really sweet though.

Off-topic: I thought that the series would end with TEC because Butler couldn't very well defend Artemis as well as he could've in the past

I was secretly hoping for Artemis to come up with something to save him. I was happy when he did although it would've been unusual if he hadn't have tried. As for Butler ageing, well there had to be some sort of trade-off for getting his life back again. It's too cheesy otherwise. I think it's a shame that it had to be 15 years though.

And yeah, Sorcha, I thought the part he told Artemis his name was sweet as well. It also made me feel like it was really the end. Sad

To be honest, I was on the verge of tears when Butler 'died,' as was I in TOD and TLC... I was relieved when he was alive, but yes, as you said, there had to be some sort of sacrifice for his life, otherwise it'd have been a useless bit of plot. =/

You have to remember though, even an old Butler is still twice as dangerous as a man half his age!

Excellent point!  Cheesy Butler is superhuman. XD

I was also quite shocked when Butler "died" but knowing Colfer, I just thought that the whole incident would be another chance to showcase Artemis' quick-thinking and resourcefulness. Wink Old Butler is better than Dead Butler, hands down. Smiley

Seriously, I cried when I thought Butler was dead. To be honest, Butler is the only one Arty ever confides in apart from Holly (and that's only recently) Poor Arty... Cry I was so relieved when it turned out that he would live, but felt slightly sick when I found out he had aged by 15 years. But I would definitely prefer Butler alive. The only thing about Butler living was that made me think Root would live as well...Sometimes I hate Colfer...but never enough not to read his books Wink

hmmmm. I guess it was sort of necessary to have Butler go through all this. Because in that moment, Artemis truly learned what Butler ment to him, and how much the value of his life was, kind of like the closest thing to a friend. Smiley

And he realized how strong their bond was. Artemis is not Artemis without Butler.

When Artemis saw Butler, I think a little kid awoke inside of him and he was like.. Butler can't die. He can't. Sort of like when Minerva saw her dad knocked out. The genii usually keep their feelings undercover, but they do have hearts.

And it was so sweet about the "Domovoi" part.

I have to agree with Savvy it also expressed Arty true devotion to his bodyguard
. It also showed how Arty was able to think under pressure and able to think quickly.
