Angry I haven't bought the book (sorrysorrysorry, I'm, trying to get my mom to buy it) but from some pictures I saw online, Holly is white.

Quote
Holly Short had nut-brown skin, cropped auburn hair, and hazel eyes.

--Artemis Fowl, pg. 31

Now, here's what Holly looks like in the book.

...

Nut-brown indeed...

the only thing they got right was the hair. and that was even barely.

her eyes are like mud brown. and Arty's were about the same shade. and skin tone? Don't even get me started. >_<

well, i always thought of holly as white, so i didn't mind that. and the hair was right too. but other than that, NOTHING. it was horrible!! if i read the graphic novel before the book, i would be put off the whole series completely.

I absolutely DESPISED how Foaly looked in the book,. in a whole sense, AMAZING to see them in action, in a nitty-gritty artwork sense, completely (*%*^%^&.

ummm the charactors soooooooo don't look like what i thought they would but that is ok.
the only thing that bothers me is how Eoin Colfer bangs into ur head that artemis has blue eyes but in the GN he has brown eyes. really? really? no O_o
i'm confused......... O_o

oh and foaly soooooooooooooo does NOT look like he is wearing a tin-foil hat
and how their ears stick out 3 feet from their head..... come on
root is okay excetp for the ears
and Butler has big body and no head (he is not that ugly in my mind)

Let's see.
A person above agreed with the poster above them about GN!Holly's skin, but said her hair is right. It's not. That hairstyle could be described as cropped, but the word is usually used to describe shorter hair than that, and later books describe her hairstyle as a crew cut, which is about the shortest haircut you can have and still have hair. Additionally, while GN!Holly's hair and the colour auburn are both browns, auburn is red-brown, GN!Holly's hair is yellow-brown.
Somehow, she manages to show noticeable cleavage twice in TAI:GN, despite her introduction in book!TAI saying she looks like she could be a gymnast -- gymnasts are not known for their curves, most Olympic gymnasts look like twelve year olds, despite the 16 years old minimum for high-level competition.
And then there's her eyes: I'd say "how the heck Lamanna got "dark brown with green whites" out of 'hazel' I'll never know", but it's pretty obvious Lamanna and Rigano just. don't. care. (well, except about fanservice, they seem to be pretty darn fond of that)

Foaly looks like his 'human' half is a baboon. No, seriously, picture-Google 'baboon' and compare the faces. If he was supposed to look like a baboon we would have been told. Plus, as others have said, distinct lack of hat.
Mulch looks like a rodent, and while most real burrowing animals have claws, Dwarves tunnel like worms, not rabbits, so there's no reason for him to have them.

Opal's hair and eyes are described as black and dark brown in TOD, in TAI:GN they're both dark red, and her eyes do not look like they belong to someone could pass as human with a simple ear-bobbing, on account of them having no whites.

And a nit-pick on something not about characters: the batteries are AAA according to both the book, and the narration in TAI:GN, but they're not drawn like AAAs, the proportions are more like Cs or Ds.

Addition in edit: back on page three, there's somebody who seems to think criticisms of the art are primarily based on folks expecting manga style. I wasn't, though my favourite comic style is probably old Franco-Belgian comics like Tintin and Asterix. This person then talked about one of the artists having done Batman comics, as if that was a reasonable excuse for drawing clearly described characters differently. I don't know much about the comics industry, but I'm pretty darn sure that if you draw Batman, you make sure you draw him with black hair, blue eyes and a lantern jaw, or you ain't gettin' paid, let alone published. (The person they drew to represent Holly isn't bad-looking, but it's hard for me to see that past my irritation at her impersonating the real Holly. And honestly, being attractive is only important to me in that we're told she's pretty, so an unattractive drawing of her would be inaccurate.)

When I heard that an Artemis Fowl graphic novel comes out I was Amazed because I really like the story and so on but when it was for sale I just saw the art and said WHAT IS THIS? the art was so BAD!
And now I heard someone saying another graphic novel will come out...
I thought I will... I have no idea what I would do but I'm sure I would do something!

The graphic novel could be much better

oh, and can I please point out that I think drawing a character described as dark-skinned as pale-skinned is kinda racist. As is not caring that it was done -- very passive racism, but still not an acceptable attitude IMO.

(I also think the more-stereotypically-feminine-than-described appearance is horribly sexist, but let's tackle one social ill at a time.)

they made a mistake, although i didnt check the book yet to see if eoin also made the mistake. when those two scientists look into artemis' eyes to see if he is telling the truth, he is wearing the reflective glasses so you cant really see his eyes. thats a bad mistake.

I agree that was a HUGE mistake....

i really really really do not like the art. it is so badly portrayed. Foaly looks nothing like foaly and Holly is supposed to have aurburn hair, its just... gr it bothers me how they could've ruined such a great oppurtunity.

On the page Artemis is talking to root, about the troll, it shows him Arty talking to his sunglasses. When he pauses talking, and there is an ackward silence, as root is deciding, it shows Artys relflection still talking, when Arty himself is not talking. Not right. Also, in Haven, everything is in english, when underground, they speak gnommish. Not right...
